Nestled under century old spruce trees located by the Rideau River,
nature's tranquility is an important part of the hotels structural
operations. As being members and contributors of the Green
Hotel's Association, the Audubon
Green Leaf Eco-Rating Program, and the Rideau
Valley Conservation Foundation (RVCF), the Monterey Inn Resort
& Conference Centre is the first carbon neutral company in Canada.
As the hotel sets off carbon produced by employees and facilities
on the property, an equal amount of trees have been planted to neutralize
the hotels production of harmful gases (CO2, CH4, N2O).
Carbon Neutral
The Monterey Inn Resort & Conference Centre is proud to announce
that we are the first carbon neutral company in Canada. This means
the amount of carbon dioxide emissions the hotel offsets into the
environment is neutralized by the amount of trees we have planted.
By planting over 5000 trees in Almonte, Ontario, we will help rebuild
some of the environments forestry that has been damaged. The Monterey
Inn Resort & Conference Centre will be watching these trees grow
in the years to come as they are will prosper into a well developed
forest.
Green Leaf
As the Monterey Inn Resort & Conference Centre is taking substantial
steps towards environmental improvements, Audubon International, a
company guiding us through eco-efficiency and environmental responsibility,
has given us a rating of 3 Green Leafs out of 5. This rating tells
us how well we measure up to best practices for energy efficiency,
resource conservation, and pollution prevention. We are currently
striving to reach the 4 Leaf standards.
Green Key
The Monterey has accomplished a 5 out of 5 Green Key rating by reducing our enviromental impacts and analyzing our operations to maintain a low energy and waste output. We have placed policies and procedures which set the international standard for sustainable hotel operations.
